Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 1992. I had just finished Dik Peeters’ make-up and hair school when I moved to Los Angeles.
Soon, I got hired at Glamour Shots. What a great opportunity to do make-up and hair on such a variety of faces! Shortly thereafter, I got a gig as a make-up assistant on the movie “Ballistic”. This was filmed in the same building as Cagney and Lacey, in those days a popular television series. That was pretty exciting to me back then!
After I assisted on a few more movies, a producer gave me a shot at being the Key Make-Up Artist on one of his productions. And that’s what got the ball rolling…..
Having lived in Los Angeles for 13 years, I have been blessed to work on many movies, music videos, commercials, headshot photography, television shows and making of-documentaries.
One of the great highlights has been doing hair and make-up for Michael Jackson’s dancers in 2002.
In 2005, I moved back to the Netherlands and soon I started working for a popular news program “Hart van Nederland”. I still work for this show regularly with great pleasure.
Filming on the beaches of Malibu and working for the studios in the Netherlands. Two separate continents, but equally the fun.
To me, the person in my chair is always what’s most important. Being a make-up artist, you literally work very close in someone’s energy field. I love tuning in to people, figuring out what they like. And then, through my expertise, create a new look where they feel comfortable and beautiful. My work is done when you are happy!
